Then there's fighting about in-laws, or your wants for the future pull you in different directions, or a woman doesn't want her husband to touch her anymore because she had a baby and everything feels weird but he can't live without having sex ever dammit, or money trouble, or political differences, or life-changing injuries, or illness, or they fight all the time over stupid shit, or one of them can't keep it in their pants, or boredom, or loneliness, or something their partner just can't do for them because it's not in their nature, or Lady forbid they lose a child and everything just collapses and they can't look at each other anymore, or a thousand other things that hit people all the time. You name it, I've probably been paid to fuck it. We pretty much expect all our other relationships to change, and it ain't weird for friendships to just drift apart and end.

I agree. Nothing lasts. But if we know that, why do anything at all?

That's true. But we were talking about getting/being married, and for whatever reason "married" seems to mean "we do and are everything for each other forever" however long that turns out to be. Except "forever" isn't something people are usually cut out for. Or "everything" for that matter. Some people buck those odds, but I'm not laying money on it being me.

There are some things I don't quite grasp yet, but I figure that's the case when you learn anything for the first time. It's not a reflection of your teaching methods.
Yeah, that sounds like about where I was when I started. Theory can be kind of weird.
Felix started teaching me not long after I turned seventeen. I'll be twenty in a few months.

Eighteen. I turned nineteen in February.
And this stuff I've been practicing on my own. I've been learning other magic related things from Regina, Yana, and Molly.
Molly's been teaching me about veils and illusions. Yana's been teaching me defensive magic (we started with offense, but I'm not very good at that). Regina... well. I don't exactly want to say "everything else," but it's kind of true.
I'm not really good at defensive magic. I think this is one of those "one or the other" things. You're either good at defensive magic or you're good at offensive.
I don't know about that. I just know I'm not a fighter.
What'd you do back when those creatures showed up a few months back?
